The command department is tasked with running everything on the station. The command department is taken by the department heads and Captain. Heads have their respective departments they need to run and oversee, while the Captain is acting as "head of heads" overseeing the departmental heads and making sure they don't slack off. This is tightly tied to the Chain of Command.

Conduct

Department Heads

There are currently 6 department heads that can be assigned to the station, there is a list of them: Head of Personnel (HoP), Head of Security (HoS), Chief Engineer (CE), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Research Director (RD), Quartermaster (QM) and they all are the same rank. All of them have the same objectives in their mind, a CORPEN:

  • Coordinating Staff - You are the one coordinating staff in departments. HoS needs to notify Security Officers of reported criminal activity, CMO to send Paramedics to retrieve dead bodies, CE order to fix the aftermaths of a gruesome bomb explosion, etc.
  • Overseeing Departments - You need to make sure that your department is running smoothly and without any problems. You cannot allow people to slack off, commit crimes, disobey orders or be active Enemies of the Corporation.
  • Responding to Emergencies - You are the one who needs to handle emergencies using your department resources, depending on the emergency you will have to provide needed equipment (Science/Cargo) Structural Repair (Engineering) Threat Containment (Security), Medical Aid (Medical).
  • Protecting Nanotrasen interests - You are the most loyal members of the crew to the Nanotrasen, it's in your interests to protect the Nanotrasen interests of plasma research and expansion. Although it should be noted that some heads might be traitors to the corporate, as such always have caution towards your superiors and co-heads.
  • Elevating Staff Morale - You must keep your department staff happy, as an unhappy staff is unproductive and is prone to insubordination and riots. Always listen to what they say, keep good relations with them, and do not abuse or threaten them. But always know the boundaries of what they can have.
  • Nurturing Staff through Training - You must train the staff who are not fully professional in their job as most of Nanotrasen is staffed with interns. Make sure you understand what they should do and how, by doing so you avoid possible accidents and improve relations with your department.

As such every head has also his own set of objectives for their department, those are on the respective articles of those department heads.

Captain

After the department heads, the Captain is overseeing them. As Captain, your objectives are similar to the department head one's, but they do differ as you're the only ultimate authority of the station. As Captain, you follow a SHIELD:

  • Staying vigilant - Your station is a large target for inside and outside enemies of the corporation. As such, you must always listen to everything happening around you and be ready to secure your nuclear disk and handheld teleporter.
  • Heeding the Chain of Command - Your authority and power are held on the Chain of Command. Chain of Command is how power gets delegated, and who answers who. As you're on top of it you're responsible for maintaining it. The only thing you answer is the Central Command and Nanotrasen's interests.
  • Interacting with the crew - You're the face of the command, the one responsible for the entire station and its crew, as such you must be in good relationships with the crew. Give out medals for good conduct, send an announcement on important events, and always be public and visible. But never forget about your security!
  • Exercising Authority - You are the ultimate authority on the station, the one who has the final word on every decision that can be made. As such you always must oversee the heads to make sure they're doing their job properly, and vetoing any horrible decisions they might make. Never be scared to demote and denote bad department heads.
  • Listening to concerns and reports - You're the freest command member after the HoP while also being the face of it, as such you're the one listening to the problems of the crew and solving them. An upset crew is a sign of unfavorable command and can become a ground for unrest.
  • Delegating tasks - No one can command something alone. You're not a Swiss knife or one-man army, you can't do everything there should be done. If there is some kind of problem you should delegate it to the head which is specialized in this kind of situation, who will then delegate it to their subordinates who will do the job.

Rights, Privileges, and Prohibitions

Department Heads

For conducting their objectives and keeping the station running department heads have a set of rights, privileges, and prohibitions. But those rights and privileges cannot be abused, the abuse of them as well the breakage of prohibitions is punishable by the Captain and Space Law, remember that avoidance of punishment leads to harsher punishment. In general all heads are allowed to utilise flashes, telescopic batons, and disable mode of energy guns for self defense.
