Introduction

Friends, welcome to this guide.

I'm not writing this guide because I am a great captain, I consider myself even among the worst. The role of Captain brings out the best and the worst of people. Every round can be different in difficulity, activity and responses. One round everything goes excellent and the other burns you out. It will happen often that you have no control at all over the situation. This guide won't be helpful for everyone.

Consider Captain as a work of charity. You give yourself to the marines, don't expect anything in return. Don't expect praise. I fail often in my charity but I shall always do my best to strive for it, anywhere.

Galatians 5:14 - For all the law is fulfilled in one word: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Duty of a Captain

The main duty is to be the command of shipside. I shall try to explain how I approach these duties.

Start:

Use your minimap, check who's on duty. MO's, RO's, ST's are there any? After that take count of the amount of engineers and corpsman.

As a Captain you wish to have every role filled to make the operation go smoothly but to have everything filled never happens unless with a high playercount. Here is starting your first and maybe one of the most important steps, knowing yourself and your crew. This situation you should make use of your reason and authority. As example, the round starts and there's 1 SO but no RO, what will you do? Do you know how to do requisition, what happens if you don't do it. What if you appoint the SO to become the replacement of the RO. Can he do it, does he even want to do it? This is why it's important to give youurself over to charity. Giving demanding orders to do x or x, should only done when there's extreme necessity. Like with a hijacks, SD's, Alamo EVAC, Tadpole EVAC ect.

Moments where marine lifes are at stake. People chose SO not to become a RO. Just ask them if they're willing. To be able to work under many different circumstances is important for captain.

No MO → Medbay can't be properly utilised, people who are hugged have to wait longer to have the larva removed and the pressure on corpsman are higher.

No RO → Requisition will not be fully utilised unless someone appointed (Ship tech, SO)

No ST → OB Cannon won't be maintained, generators either, possibility that once hijack is able to happen the ship ain't dismantled nor fortified yet.

No ENG → FOB probably won't be build, miners and cades won't be repaired nor new fortifications will be constructed.

No MED → Marines won't be revived nor recieve care groundside and will be forced to be sent shipside to be healed.

No MAR → bruh

No FC → Captain needs to direct the pre-deployment (Which LZ, when to deploy)

No SO → CIC could become more intensive.

No Synth → Synths can replace almost any role that doesn't ask combat.

The Captain can replace the duties of RO and ST without any trouble.

Combat Information Center (CIC)

Your main working station. You are the eyes of the sky, you are not distracted by combat you are observing. The CIC is the center for communication. The art of CIC is to communicate with marines who are deaf (blind oocly for chat), use their senses. Noises and markers are the best way to show information. Repeat it multiple times in any way possible.

; CHECK MINIMAP - UNGATIDE NW CAVES → :q+d+c+b(+e+m+u+s) → Order announcement → Command console announcement → AI announcement & Vox (if possible).

The marine has to be very blind and deaf not to notice this, there will always be a few who are too much focused. Do not lose your temper, you can't fully control the unga.
