Shadowling as Side Antag

Any chance we could get Shadowling as a side antag, if progress continues to wain on Datum Antags?

Ascendance and the end goal would need changing, but this might honestly be the best place for shadowlings. Everyone hates them as a gamemode.
I'm an ex-coder for /tg/. I made the original versions of clockcult, shadowlings, revenants, His Grace, and other stuff.
I don't play, code, or participate in the community, but I occasionally post dumb stuff in the hut.

Shadowlings are the focus of the round when they spawn. It wouldn't be possible to make them side antags. Things like abductors and revenants make good side antags because the disruption they cause is relatively small in scope.

I don't like the completely uncounterable glare stun that shadowlings (AND THRALLS) have. People were whining about parasting for ages, but this is exactly the same thing BUT RANGED.

Yeah, but the difference between parasting is that you're out of the round and with slings you aren't so that's pretty nice. Either way, unless slings have like 10 thralls they have no crowd control so just run around with some friends and you're now immune.

All I hear when people say this is "waaaaaaaah, I cant rambo all things!"

There is a counter, the counter is "Don't go alone into dark areas." Thralls are easily identified, so paranoia isn't an issue. Buddy up, carry torches, and the problem is solved. An antag that's as visible as Shadowlings should absolutely be able to stomp your shit in if you come into their home turf (darkness) alone.

That's a critical difference between Glare and Parasting- you can tell ahead of time if someone is able to use Glare on you, whereas with parasting, literally anyone could be about to use it on you.

If there are known to be shadowlings about and people are wearing face-covering masks, I just go ahead and treat them like they're thralls.
In game, I play the A.I Firmware, the French cyborg C.U.R.I.E, Aubrie Allen, and the lizard scum Skulks-Through-Maintenance.

It used to be that anything in the 'mask' slot concealed the thrall examine message. You could smoke a cigarette or wear a breath mask that was pulled down or all sorts of things to make sure people would assume your face was uncovered, and that you therefore weren't a thrall when they didn't see the message.

That was later changed to use cover flags, so this is a non-issue. A mask that will cover your face hides it (bandanas, gas masks, etc) but not anything in the mask slot.

This thread was made when Shadowlings weren't back in
As far as I am concerned this thread is done. I thought it was taken out for reasons other then the fact they weren't able to hatch, and if it didn't work as a main antagonist we could try it like a side antagonist. And to Icepacks, xemos, replicators and zombies snowball more and they are side antagonists.

The main concern is that when shadowlings fully snowball, they forcibly end the round and get a few minutes to be completely all-powerful. If shadowling was to become a side antagonist, it would need some very major tweaks.

The obvious solution, though not necessarily the best one, would be to drastically reduce the number of possible thralls and remove the 'ascendancy' mechanic entirely.
