Spawning with RP items

I don't know why this hasn't been added in YEARS ago. Come on coder team, does nobody really care about proper roleplay anymore? I get removing ERP, but honestly, there hasn't been any updates in recent /tg/station history that have really truly promoted proper roleplay. For starters, I roleplay my character as having a sheathed katana on her side at all times, yet I am unable to start with one, or reliably acquire one every round, or really, any round at all. I consider this a very real stifling of my own personal roleplay, and honestly cannot understand why a server that bouts itself even as light roleplay only hasn't fixed this issue. I think that /tg/ would be a better server if we were allowed to start with a specific RP item for our character. It would heavily encourage roleplay, being able to start with an item unique to the character, and I think should be heavily considered for a future commit.

What RP items would you guys like to have on your characters?

Assuming it isn't, certain items like the cosmetic glasses and assorted sechud types should all be character setup options.

But you don't get to have a katana on a space station, because that would be deemed unsuitable by Nanotrasen.

Unlike most open roleplaying on the internet, in SS13 you generally roleplay your character within the bounds defined by the game's lore and the extent of character customisation allowed. The more customisation that is allowed, the less defined the game's world and theme is, and thus immersion is destroyed. I mean just look at the RP that goes on in most MMOs, like WoW, where goldshire is populated with futa nightelves and worgen. Everyone trying to be a special fucking snowflake with zero consequence does not make for meaningful RP. Unless of course you're looking for ERP, which we don't do.

It works with meaningless shit that has no mechanical benefit whatsoever (not even a deck of cards, as those can be used for spess-navigation), and that's not exactly a lot of items.

Funfact: Years back when I was deciding whether to focus my playtime on LLA or TG, LLA thought it'd be a good idea to remove spawned on backpacks.
I chose TG because having no backpack is a colossal pain in the arse.

Although getting the ability to spawn with a weapon is pretty bullshit, I think there should be a new option in character creation where you can choose one of several meaningless items to spawn with, like a pocketwatch or a fancy pen or something. They should probably be labeled with the person's name, though, so it's their item and not just an item.

You have got to be shitting me.
No, you can't have a katana at round start, having one on a heavy RP server at round start (See: Hypartia) is failRP anyways.
No. You arguement is stupid because you think /tg/ is mature and disiplined enough to RP anything that doesn't involve micheal bay level explosions and equipment.
No. You shouldn't be RPing yourself spawning with a katana, thats stupid, and you should feel stupid.
No. This is SS13, not everyone is a ninja, not everyone carrys a katana.
No. /tg/ culture doesn't include RP, if you want RP, this is the wrong server.

TLDR:
No. Go to Hypatia if you want RP.


EDIT:

HOWEVER.
I wouldn't be against adding unique items to players that have no value (IE: A fucking katana has value, as its literally a fucking katana)
IE: A golden pocketwatch, a fancy zippo, a custom cigar, a fancy bottle of gin, a fancy internals box.
Or having certain jobs have the option to spawn with custom round start gear
IE: The HOS spawns with a bunch of medals on his jumpsuit if he wishes
IE: Sec officers spawn with ammo pouches, and tactical knife holders on their armored vest.

I didn't lock this thread when it was first posted because I thought, hey, maybe people actually want RP items and they'll come up with some cool ideas. But of course that didn't happen and I feel foolish for even trying to be optimistic.
