Should Ops Be Able To Sling Backpack In Suit Slot?
Minor idea I had for Nuke Ops. Inventory management is hell for most people and the sop for Ops for space travel is to carry their backpack in their hands (or drag it) while using their jetpack for travel.
My proposal, to see if its a ok idea or if it's yet another one of Steelpoint's shit idea's, is to allow Ops to place their backpacks into their suits exoslot, or armour slot. This would free up inventory management significantly, that or limit it to Elite and Shielded hardsuits.
Your thoughts?

Just give ops bags of holding, heaven for-fuckin-bid they don't have an entire fusilade of syndie gear on them at any given time.

Take a full O2 tank from the dispenser once https://github.com/tgstation/-tg-station/pull/15604 is added. Use that as your fuel source for the hardsuit's jetpack. Now, not all Op hardsuits have internal jetpacks, so I feel the solution could be to give all Op hardsuit variants (elite, shielded) internal jetpacks, and leave the spare jetpacks on another spot in the ship to give to any reinforcement Ops. Barring that, you could just let them add their backpacks to the storage as suggested in the OP.

Re: Should Ops Be Able To Sling Backpack In Suit Slot?
does anyone else here just not even use backpacks
i'd take it if i'm designated explosives guy maybe but i do just fine using my military belt full of ammo, a grenade or two, then pinpointer/emag in my pockets
i never felt the need to take a backpack, you can get more than enough shit in the military belt unless you are a specialist

Ten to five is a nice voting pattern, I'll consider a PR for this later.

Why not make the jetpack fit in the belt slot instead? Honestly I always think it would make more sense to fit there anyway

I would but I don't think it works, in fact I think the jetpack fits there anyway (Or it used to with the CE's Hardsuit).

Re: Should Ops Be Able To Sling Backpack In Suit Slot?
Yeah this, most engineering hardsuits can use a jetpack from oxygen tanks stored there anyway. Hell make the syndie exos hold large weaponry like ion rifle and whatever too.Shaps wrote:Why not make the jetpack fit in the belt slot instead? I thought the inventory management was part of making yourself the ultimate operator.
I never use backpack, just belt, gun in exosuit slot. You really don't need a backpack, and jetpack is essential.

How much more shit do ops really need to be able to carry?
I dislike this whole trend of "quality of life" negating purposeful downsides/buffing the shit out of inventory.

A sort of chest straps akin to Colonial Marines or Baystation would be a good solution.

I hope the series of nuke op rounds we were in last night makes you understand why I have a knee jerk response to adding anything at all to them at this point. Very overgeared and overdone already.

Can we just go 90's comics and give literally every single slot a pocket or something.
Just carry everything and die like the loot pinata you were born to be.

Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.
OOC: TheGel: Literally a guy in a suit with a shuttle full of xenos. That's a doozy

Re: Should Ops Be Able To Sling Backpack In Suit Slot?
For one, jet harnesses fit in backpacks after you're done using them. This causes a trade-off between space movement and inventory space while you're using it, which is the point of jetpacks. You can also use your suits's internal jetpack, which is more than enough for the station and back if you conserve.
So, no. I don't support this. Ops already have enough space even if they hoard to hell and back - they shouldn't have more.

Well the idea seems to have more in support than opposition.
I did notice my recent addition of the tank dispenser on the Op ship makes Jetpacks even more redundant.
