Are AI laws applied retroactively?

Post by Lumbermancer » #166699

Bottom post of the previous page:

Case.

HoS murders people, cremates them. AI gets angry, "HoS you bad guy I will lock you down to prevent harm". HoS adds law saying designated gangsters ain't human. "Hey AI they were gangsters". Oh cool that means you are not a bad guy anymore.

Yes or no? I think no. Law only works from the moment it's uploaded.

Or just bolt him in the room with power off and ID disabled so he can never leave.

I'd bolt him and call security, then holopad and offer to let him out in exchange for leaving the revolver behind.

I just realize something, what defines a gangster?

Solution to this is just to follow the changeling rule.

If you did not see them do things that are `ganglike` (tagging, wearing matching uniform, shooting others, etc) then everyone human is still human.

A retards guide on how to make a maxcap bomb in toxins.
NSFW:
You`ll need:
1-6 Plasma tanks 1-6 Oxygen tanks
1-6 tank transfer valve
2 Plasma canister
2 Oxygen canister
1 Yellow (empty) canister
Wrench
Toxins lab access
Science testing lab access

Grab a oxygen tank and a plasma tank and bring them to the testing lab.
Super cool the Oxygen and superheat the Plasma.

Clean out the oxygen and plasma tanks with a filter/pump.

Then you wrench and unwrench the plasma and oxygen tanks in toxins. It`s important tha you do it one at a time. Try to get a 85%plasma and 15% oxygen mix.

Once you have a good burn mix, pump the mix into the burn chamber and light it on fire. Wait 10 seconds for it to heat up and pump it into a yellow (empty) canister.

Quickly set the kpa output to 163 kpa and fill the tanks with the burn mix.

Take the oxygen tanks and fill it up with a 613kpa worth of oxygen FIRST then fill the rest with plasma, you should get well over 2000kpa in the end.

With the new atmos system you should wait 5-10 minutes for you tanks to bake.

Take a tank transfer valve, add a oxygen tank and a plasma tank to it. You should have a maxcap bomb. Have fun blowing up the station mining!

My 10 pence would be that AI laws are always for the current situation. As soon as a new lawset is uploaded old information is invalid and must be re-evaluated from the ground up.

For example if an antimov AI releases plasma and then is law changed back to asmiov you'd assume the AI would try to remove the plasma, not just let it hang there.
Whatever

When you get a law saying "shock every door on the station", and then you spend twenty minutes shocking every door you see - and then the law is removed, and you have to unshock them, that's 'fun'.

Downside to playing AI. Try to unshock doors when asked and basically act in good faith. Ideally start with doors in high-usage and work your way from there.

Yes or no? I think no. Law only works from the moment it's uploaded.

See it from a computers point of view.

Its previous laws have been erased and replaced with new ones. It now has a reason to believe that perhaps HOS's actions were justified, however it will scan its previous database to see i in fact the cremated person was a gangster and if it has insufficient evidence still make the conclusion that HOS is bad.
