I've seen that.
Oh baby. Time to wipe my old save if necessary (or if the Cyclops is still fucked).
Started a new game.
Now there's water clipping through the escape pod floor during the launch sequence.

Gah, they removed large rooms from the starting blueprints.
Now I have to go search who knows where if I am to build an aquarium and start farming food and water.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
That seems overly unnecessary... the limit on getting them early was resources. And to be honest, WHY limit them from the early game? They're like the first little base structure you want to build, actually give you a bit of space to store and manoeuvrer in.DemonFiren wrote:Gah, they removed large rooms from the starting blueprints.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
You can still build tube bases to store stuff
You should be able to scan them on the floating island, pretty easy to get to.
Alternatively you can go down to the jelly shroom cave and try to avoid getting centipede raped
Island will be easier to get to though

Honestly when you drop me in the middle of a vast ocean and the only landmark is a wreckage I'm naturally gonna go towards it and salvage it.
It might look cool but it flies in the face game convention in an annoying way.

So now it's an island rush. Kay, then, let me dig up the map because despite the game allegedly being about exploration I have no fucking intention of filling my inventory with fifty thousand fish to be carried on my person at all times just so I don't starve/dehydrate.
Early-mid game is where the large aquarium is supposed to shine. Later on you get to the island and obtain lantern fruit and marblemelon anyway, removing any need for food and water ever if you put those in a planter on the Cyclops.
Speaking of which, I wonder if they got rid of the charger exploit.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
Lantern fruit got nerfed because once you got a single one there was zero difficulty in ever finding enough food and water again. Water filtration machines were comparatively a waste of resources. Granted, food still isn't hard to get, but it isn't absolutely trivial like it used to be.

Water filter + giant tank of reginalds = infinite food and water forever.
You can add a biogenerator and toss a bunch of the reginalds into it for fuel as well.

I thought they rebalanced silver?
Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
The problem with silver is that its only found in sandstone, which only shows up in kelp forests and grassy plateaus - both of which are heavy on the foliage.
Scanner rooms are one way of getting around this, or grab a prawn suit and mine the big deposits - hopefully they've made mining less awkward.
Also last version I played I found the game much much more enjoyable once I turned the oxygen cheat on, after getting stuck on yet another odd piece of geometry.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
Last time i played i literally got trapped inside a fucking wreck. I was looking for the one in the floating islands area, when all of the sudden it fucking popped in all around me. My seamoth was stuck in an area of the wreck that was completely rendered but not actually accessible, like a WIP or something. Ended up having to warp out, but my seamoth was lost and i had to cheat in another one.
I know the renderer is bad but holy fuck that was terrible, i did not think it would let me go through solid objects.
I have decided to not play anymore until they do an optimization/bugfix patch

I dont play this game since encountering giant sea beasts who warp into existence around you because of deplorably shit code.
It's one thing to spook the shit out of me by having stuff lurking around but to just spawn garbage right on top of me is just a broken game.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
Clear your cache! That's a bug that's fixed in the experimental branch, but we have to wait for another patch to come out first. I recommend clearing it every time you finish up for the day, as if you don't, every save progressively lags the game more and more until it's unplayable. How-to is here, it's the 6th post down.

Bluh.
I've thought about getting this for a while, but open oceans still freak me out. Oceanic beaches are okay, but the idea of water full of god knows what for miles around makes my skin crawl. And not in a good, fun way like Alien: Isolation.

Re: Subnautica - HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THAT THING?
The game runs so fucking abysmally bad in its current state i cannot recommend it to anyone until they fix their shit. Constantly clearing your caches only does so much. I have had reaper leviathans pop into existence 20 meters in front of me. Last time i played i was in the floating islands zone in my seamoth looking for the wreck so i could scout it for fragments. I was pretty sure i was at the right place when it fucking rendered in all around me, trapping my fucking seamoth in a part of the wreck that had been rendered but was entirely inaccessible. I had to use cheats to teleport out and magic myself a new sub, my old one is still there constantly pinging and i don't think there is any way i can stop it at this point.
TL:DR game is good but the performance and bugs are so bad that no one should give them another fucking cent until they fucking fix their shit
